When we are canvassing for votes across the branches, we promised our members to move NULGE forward to an enviable height. We vowed to provide leadership and lead a responsive union where good health, welfare packages, career progression, regular promotion, regularization, conversion and peaceful retirement will be taken for granted.
As soon as we resumed office, the first problem we met on ground was the issue of Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit {NFIU) relating to the payment of staff salary. To resolve the problem, we immediately organized a seminar for all the accountants on the payroll of Local Government Service Commission to educate them on the application of the new regulations. At the end of the seminar, we forwarded our reports and recommendations to the government, and they were approved.
On health, we established clinic in each of the local government area across the state including the three boards of the Commission to take care of the health needs of our members. And during the covid-19, we purchased several bags of beans, sanitizers and nose masks for our members to bail them out of aerobic circles of hardship occasioned by the covid-19 and recently, we procured flasks and table Cups to every staff as souvenirs to make the happy.
About career progression, we succeeded in resolving the impasse between Director, General Service and Administration (DGSA) and other accounting officers over some administrative procedures but as we speak, the impasse has been amicably resolved as the DGSA can now sign Bank Cheques as approved by the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON. In the same vein, the union is still on its agitation for career officers to get to level 17 like their counterparts in other states.
In June 2020, my administration introduced a retirement scheme in form of thrift and as at today, many interested members have Joined and contributed over N37 million to the account as we speak. To ensure transparency and accountability, none of my SEC members including me is signatory to the account. The signatories to the account are the former NULGE National President Dr. Deji Akinwalere and Mrs. Olorunnegan.
On infrastructure, my predecessor, Dr.Bunmi Eniayewu established a Resort Centre at Owode in Akure North LGA of the state with state-of-the-art recreational facilities. To add values and enhance patronage of the Resort Centre, we bought four plots of land close to the Resort Centre to build hotel with a view to increasing the revenue profile of the union.
In addition, we conceived and established a modern Bakery at the State Secretariat of the union in Akure worth about N40 million, as at today, the Bakery is functioning well with high patronage.
To me as a person, the greatest achievement of this administration is peace which I attributed to God Almighty. To Him alone we return all the honours and adorations.
