The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Ondo State branch held a medical outreach on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, as part of the final events marking the handover ceremony of the outgoing executives. The medical outreach, which was held at the NULGE secretariat at Ilesha Garage offered free health services to the staff and other attendees.
The medical outreach was organized by the NULGE Health Committee on behalf of NULGE. The medical team consisted of medical doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, medical records officers, and other health workers, who volunteered their time and expertise for the event.
The medical outreach provided various health services, such as blood pressure check, blood sugar check, blood tests for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and malaria parasite, and eye check.
The staff and other attendees received free drugs, glasses, and other medical supplies, depending on their needs and eligibility. The medical outreach also included health education and counseling sessions, where the staff were taught about the prevention and management of common diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer, malaria, and others.
The medical outreach was well attended by the staff from across the 18 local government areas of the state, who expressed their appreciation and satisfaction with the event. The staff and others in attendance also commended the outgoing executives, led by Comrade Bola Taiwo, for initiating and organizing the event, which they described as a timely and beneficial gesture. They also praised the medical team for their professionalism and dedication.
The medical outreach was also witnessed by some dignitaries among whom were the representative of the Executive Governor of Ondo State, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Hamidu Takuro; Commissioners from the Local government Service Commission; the representative of the Accountant-General of Ondo State; National President of NULGE, Comrade Hakeem Olatunji Ambali; National Deputy President, NLC, Nigeria, who also doubles as the Nationa President of NCSU, Comrade Sunday Adeleye; NLC Chairman, Ondo State; TUC Chairman, Ondo State; NCSU Chairman, Ondo State; past leaders of NULGE; politicians and civil servants of repute and other leaders of various professional organisations within and outside of Ondo state.They also lauded the event and congratulated the outgoing executives for their achievements and successes.
The medical outreach was the last event in the series of activities marking the NULGE Week and the handover ceremony of the outgoing executives, and the last to be conducted by the outgoing executives of NULGE who are handing over to the incoming executives today January 9, 2024.
The NULGE Week, which started on January 5, 2024, featured various events and activities, such as a visit to the orphanage, variety games, a novelty match, a thanksgiving service, health lecture for women wing, induction lecture for incoming executives and interactive session with the National President of NULGE.
The NULGE Week was a platform to showcase the union’s accomplishments, challenges, and prospects, as well as to appreciate and honour its members and stakeholders for their numerous contributions to the success of NULGE.
